GNTB aims to increase Canadian arrivals to Germany

The German National Tourist Board is seeking to increase Canadian arrivals to the country with a focus on Christmas markets as a tourist draw, the board said.

Antje Splettstoesser, Director Marketing and Sales for the German National Tourist Office in Canada, said that the board is launching a new marketing campaign to increase those numbers, after a decline in Canadian arrivals last winter. The campaign will include “new and special interest travel itineraries and travel offers online, along with last-minute Christmas travel offers in co-operation with Canadian tour operators,” she said, adding that in Canada, there is increased demand in travel for Germany's Christmas markets.

From January to August 2014, 51.6 million overnight stays by visitors from abroad were recorded in Germany. According to preliminary numbers, Germany’s Federal Statistical Office registered 2.6 million additional overnight stays in accommodations with ten or more beds, an increase of 5.3 per cent compared to last year.
