Germanwings flight crashes in French Alps

All passengers and crew are feared dead after a Germanwings flight crashed in the French Alps on Tuesday morning.

According to a report by Reuters, the Airbus A320 crashed into a remote area of the Alps after issuing a distress call around 10:45 a.m. local time, carrying 144 passengers and six crew members from Barcelona to Dusseldorf. French authorities believe that there are no survivors, the report said. The nationalities of passengers on board are yet to be confirmed.

On Tuesday morning, Germanwings (the budget carrier of Germany’s Lufthansa Airlines) website featured a brief statement about the crash, stating “We must confirm to our deepest regret that Germanwings flight 4U 9525 from Barcelona to Dusseldorf has suffered an accident over the French Alps. The flight was being operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft, and was carrying 144 passengers and six crew members… Everyone at Germanwings and Lufthansa is deeply shocked and saddened by these events. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the passengers and crew members.”
