Flair to host first drag show in the sky to celebrate Pride Month
Flair might want to think about changing its name to “Fierce” next month.
Canada’s low-cost carrier, in celebration of Pride Month, will host its first-ever “Drag Show in the Sky,” an inaugural event taking off from Toronto (YYZ) to Guadalajara (GDL) on June 12.
Promising inflight performances, entertainment, and “plenty of sparkle at cruising altitude,” Flair’s Pride Flight reflects a “commitment to bold, joyful, and inclusive air travel,” reads a press release.
In partnership with Drag Academy, Rainbow Railroad, and Visit Guadalajara, the event will feature special performances by Drag Race Mexico star Horacio Potasio, onboard celebrations, and experiences for guests, all while en route to one of Latin America's most iconic Pride destinations.
"We're throwing a drag show at 30,000 feet—because that's the kind of airline we are," said Eric Tanner, vice president, commercial at Flair, in a statement. "Pride is about visibility, inclusion, and joy. This flight is all three. We're proud to work alongside incredible partners to create something meaningful for our guests and communities—and to celebrate the vibrant diversity of everyone who works at Flair and chooses to fly with us."
Support for Rainbow Railroad
As part of “Flair FWD,” a commitment to forward-thinking, value-driven travel, this flights also signifies action – the airline has partnered with Rainbow Railroad, a global organization helping LGBTQI+ individuals escape violence and persecution, offering them a path to safety and freedom.
"Pride is about freedom, and this flight is a celebration of that," said Scott Ferguson, head of development at Rainbow Railroad. "Turning the sky into a space where LGBTQI+ people feel seen and supported is worth celebrating. We're grateful to Flair Airlines for helping raise awareness of Rainbow Railroad at a time when attacks against the LGBTQI+ community are increasing worldwide and the support of allies is more vital than ever."
Flair has also partnered with Drag Academy, whose performers and programming help elevate drag to new audiences and platforms.
"We are so thrilled to be part of this historic event. Drag is an extraordinary art form that blends fashion, music, performance, and culture. It transcends borders and identities, bringing people together through beauty, talent, and resilience," said Daven Seebarran, CEO, Drag Academy. "Pride Month is a time to uplift and celebrate the diversity that makes our community powerful. With this historic performance, we are not only reaching new heights—literally—but also sharing our art with the world in an unforgettable way. At Drag Academy, we believe visibility matters, and this milestone is a testament to how far we've come and how limitless our future can be."
Once on the ground, the celebration continues. Flair and Visit Guadalajara will welcome LGBTQ+ content creators and travellers to experience the city's Pride festivities and cultural vibrancy.
"Pride in Guadalajara is vibrant, inclusive, and full of heart—and now, it's getting a nonstop connection to the skies," said Oscar Morales, manager of PR and promotions, Visit Guadalajara. "We're delighted to show Canadians how we celebrate Pride in our city."
