Finnair, Finland’s national carrier, will bring Canada’s first and only direct connection to Helsinki to Toronto Pearson (YYZ) on May 4.

The transatlantic flight will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. It’s also the first time Finnair has flown to Canada since 2015.

Flights will take place aboard an A330 aircraft, with Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy.

The schedule will operate until the end of August.

"We are excited to grow our North American network and bring Canada back as a destination. Toronto is a popular travel destination and offers especially our European customers great connections also to other parts of Canada,” said Christine Rovelli, Finnair’s chief revenue officer, in June of last year when the route was first announced.

The route follows a broader transatlantic expansion by the Nordic carrier, which has shifted capacity westward after the closure of Russian airspace disrupted its longstanding Asia-focused network.

“Offering the only direct connection between the two nations, our route from Toronto to Helsinki signals our commitment to the North American market, and the importance this plays in Finnair’s business,” said Javier Roig Sanchez, Finnair General Manager North America, last year.

“With strong demand for travel from Canada to Europe in 2025, and Canada fast becoming one of the most popular long-haul destinations for Europeans, we hope this route will be a hit with success, whether traveling for leisure or business.

“We also expect to see strong demand for travel between Canada and India, as customers experience the ease and convenience of connecting via Helsinki Airport, when travelling between North America and Asia.”
