Drone collision scare at JFK

A drone was spotted 100 feet below a plane as it was attempting to land at John F. Kennedy International Airport on July 31, 2015, according to a story by Newsweek.
The sighting was the second of two which took place that day; the first was a plane flying back from Haiti, which claimed it wasn’t in danger of hitting the drone and so continued its landing procedure as normal.
The second spotting occurred several hours later, when a plane flying in from Orlando reported nearly hitting the unmanned aircraft, which was about 100 feet below its right wing.
There were no injuries and the drone sightings are currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Drones without clearance by the FAA are not authorized to fly within five miles of New York City airports, but according to Newsweek, there are roughly 25 drones spotted near planes at area airports each month.
