Deadline approaches for SkyGreece response

The Canadian Transportation Agency has given SkyGreece Airlines until 5 p.m. today to respond to a complaint filed on behalf of stranded passengers, after the carrier announced last week it had temporarily ceased all operations.

The deadline for a response was set by the CTA after the complaint from consumer activist Gabor Lukacs was filed with the organization last Friday. In his complaint, Lukacs requested the CTA to order SkyGreece to rebook passengers within 24 hours and to post $8.7 million in securities to cover passenger compensation claims.

Lukacs’ has requested an expedited process to handle the complaint should SkyGreece not respond by the Aug. 31 deadline.

The cancellation of flights last week stranded hundreds of passengers in Canada and Europe. According to a CityNews report, a handful of Canadian passengers stranded by the airline returned home over the weekend.

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario has advised affected passengers to contact either their travel agent or credit card company regarding reimbursement.
