Cuba-U.S. commercial flights coming soon?
The Cuban and U.S. governments have reached an understanding on restoring commercial flights between the two countries, which according to reports, could begin within months.
The CBC reported that a series of meetings between Cuba and the U.S. in Washington this week has resulted yesterday in a memorandum of understanding on the restoration of commercial airline traffic, with finalization of the agreement expected soon; so far, U.S. carriers such as American, Delta, United, JetBlue and Southwest have expressed interest in Cuba-U.S. flights.
Service could commence within a matter of months, the report said, which also stated that Cuba could allow more than a dozen daily U.S. flights, according to U.S. officials and aviation executives.
The talks are the latest step in the normalization of relations between the two countries, which began a year ago today when Cuba and the U.S. announced they would end more than 50 years of hostility.
