Cuba Cruise undergoing restructuring, "business as usual" in Canada
Cuba Cruise is currently undergoing a restructuring but it’s business as usual for the company’s Canadian operations, according to founder Dugald Wells.
The company is being more fully “rolled into” the Celestyal brand of Louis Cruises, a full equity partner of Cuba Cruise which provides the vessel for voyages around the island. In an interview with PAX, Wells said the move will allow Cuba Cruise “to make more use of the overheads and resources” offered by Louis/Celestyal.
Celestyal was officially launched in late 2014, undertaking operations of the Louis Olympia and Louis Cristal ships, the latter of which operates Cuba Cruise itineraries during the winter months.
“The intention is still to have a Canadian presence,” Wells assured.
Nicholas Filippidis, director of product development for Celestyal, told PAX that agreements surrounding Canadian representation are in the works of being established. Currently, Bannikin Travel & Tourism represents the brand on the public relations side, while KAI Group has been managing trade relations in the marketplace.
Wells said that the changes will also allow him to “step back” from his involvement in operations and sales, while maintaining his role as shareholder and founder.
Cuba Cruise has already announced its 2015-2016 season, scheduled to set sail on Dec. 18 through to Mar. 21.
