The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has given Flair Airlines an (acid?) green light to operate scheduled international flights to Cuba.

The update was shared on the agency’s website on April 8, 2026.

In its decision, the agency notes that it is satisfied that Flair meets all the applicable requirements to operate the flights.

The licence is subject to conditions prescribed by the Air Transportation Regulations.

No launch dates or flight schedules were included in the decision.

As it has been widely reported, Cuba is currently grappling with an energy crisis after disruptions in Venezuelan oil supplies left the country’s airports short of jet fuel, prompting Canadian airlines to suspend service in February.

Preliminary restart dates have been officially released; however, they are subject to change.

As reported, Sunwing Vacations and Vacances WestJet Québec are so far planning to resume their Cuba operations, via WestJet, on June 20, with packages to Varadero (VRA) and Cayo Coco (CCC) from Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City.

Air Transat, in a memo to travel advisors last month, revealed that it will also postpone its return to Cuba until at least June 20. However, in an updated statement to PAX on April 14, the company said it is continuing to assess its Cuba flight program for this summer.

"A decision will be made in the coming weeks. In the meantime, flights scheduled between mid-June and the end of October 2026 remain temporarily closed for sale," the company wrote in an email.

Air Canada has pushed back the return of its Cuba service until at least November 1, 2026, citing ongoing operational issues including power outages and hotel closures on the island.
