CTA green lights Guatemala for Air Transat

The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has approved a request from Air Transat to operate scheduled international service between Canada and Guatemala.

“The Agency is satisfied that the applicant meets all the applicable requirements,” wrote the CTA in a decision posted to its website on July 21.

The licence is subject to the conditions outlined by Canada’s Air Transportation Regulations. Air Transat has not yet released an official schedule.

The Central American country has been making travel news headlines in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, Air Canada Vacations announced it was expanding its Central America offerings with new tours in Guatemala.

Honduras to continue at WestJet

In a separate decision posted July 21, the CTA also approved the WestJet Group’s application to operate continued flights to Honduras.

The company is now licensed to operate the service until June 30, 2027, wrote the CTA.

The WestJet Group already serves Honduras through flights to Roatan, with WestJet's seasonal Toronto–Roatan service returning from Nov. 15, 2026, to May 2, 2027.

The destination is also available through Sunwing Vacations, including new winter sun flights between Quebec City and Roatan.
