CTA clears WestJet for codeshare flights to Qatar

WestJet has received approval from the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) to operate scheduled international flights between Canada and Qatar through codesharing.

In an Aug. 10 decision issued by the CTA, the agency granted WestJet a licence to operate large-aircraft scheduled international service through codeshare arrangements on routes covered by the air transport agreement between Canada and Qatar.

The authorization is tied to an arrangement between the governments of Canada and Qatar outlined in an Agreed Minute signed on Sept. 19, 2024.

After reviewing the application, the CTA determined that WestJet met the applicable requirements of the Canada Transportation Act and that the relevant terms and conditions of the Canada-Qatar arrangement have been satisfied.

As a result, the agency issued the licence, authorizing WestJet to operate the flights.

The licence is subject to conditions outlined in Canada's Air Transportation Regulations.

Under those conditions, WestJet's scheduled international codeshare service must be operated in accordance with the Canada-Qatar arrangement, as well as any other applicable agreements reached between the two countries.

WestJet has yet to disclose details of its plans.
