Club Med Columbus Isle's reopening delayed by storm
Following Hurricane Joaquin’s arrival in the Bahamas last week, Club Med will push back the reopening date of Club Med Columbus Isle to Dec. 20 as staff assess damage to the property and local infrastructure.
On Oct. 2, the storm passed just west of the resort, which is currently closed to guests for the season; a small team of staff and suppliers on-site are all safe and no injuries were reported, Club Med said. The property, located on San Salvador Island, was scheduled to reopen to guests on Oct. 18.
Club Med said that a preliminary assessment found that the resort sustained some exterior damage from the high winds, along with minor water intrusion in some areas, while hundreds of palm trees on the grounds were badly damaged. A team is being sent to assess the storm’s impact on the property and will determine a timeframe for making any necessary repairs, the company said. According to Club Med, local government agencies expect power to be fully restored on San Salvador Island within three to five weeks.
Club Med is offering alternative transportation arrangements to guests affected by the reopening delay.
