A boutique airline from Bermuda is coming to Canada.

BermudAir on Thursday (March 28) revealed that it will expand with direct flights to Toronto and Halifax as part of a strategic growth plan.

Starting May 17, the airline, which launched last year, will begin operations between Bermuda's L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) and Toronto Pearson airport (YYZ), with flights to Halifax Stanfield airport (YHZ) commencing on May 25.

Tickets are now on sale with special introductory fares available until April 10 starting at $199 USD one-way from Bermuda to Canada and $149 USD one-way from Canada to Bermuda, including taxes.

The expansion addresses the increasing demand for direct flights between Bermuda and these prominent Canadian cities, underscoring BermudAir's dedication to enhancing travel options for both leisure and business travelers, according to a press release.

Strong demand

The new routes are poised to become “vital links” that foster increased tourism and business exchanges between the two countries, the carrier said.

"There has been strong demand for travel between Bermuda and Canada and we’re proud to continue delivering on our commitment to provide additional connectivity with these new routes," said Adam Scott, founder and CEO of BermudAir, in a statement. "Toronto and Halifax are currently underserved, and this expansion aligns with our mission to provide year-round service, meeting the needs of both Bermudians and travellers from Canada.”

Bermuda’s Minister of Transport, the Hon. Wayne Furbert, JP, MP, said the flights will bring “much-needed convenience for travel to Bermuda.”

With direct flights connecting Bermuda with Toronto and Halifax, BermudAir effectively meets the demand that locals and visitors have been seeking. As a valued partner in enhancing our air travel offerings, BermudAir is bolstering Bermuda's marketing efforts, signifying a progressive stride forward,” the Minister stated.

Adding the Toronto and Halifax routes means that BermudAir’s full schedule will operate 2,700 flights over a 12-month period offering 178,000 seats that were not previously available to and from Bermuda.

“With increased demand for travel to Bermuda this winter, BermudAir’s new service will help connect travellers looking to escape to the beauty of the island,” said Kurush Minocher, executive director, airlines relations and customer experience at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. “We are also pleased to welcome BermudAir, our newest international airline.”

Marie Manning, VP business development and chief commercial officer at Halifax International Airport Authority, noted that “We’ve had many requests from our community for a non-stop flight connecting Halifax and Bermuda, and with the short flight time of about two hours, we are confident it will be popular for business and leisure travel year-round.”

Both cabins will provide superior customer service and complimentary food and beverage service (inclusive of alcohol).

The business cabin service will offer additional booking flexibility, higher checked baggage allowances, preferential fare conditions for changes and cancellations, and more.

BermudAir's network connects Boston Logan (BOS), Westchester County (HPN), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL), Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Orlando International (MCO), and now, two Canadian destinations, Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Halifax Stanfield (YHZ), to L.F. Wade International (BDA).
