Arajet, the Dominican low-cost airline, officially launched its operations from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) Monday (Nov. 25) at a ceremony attended by executives from Puntacana Group, Dominican aviation authorities, and Arajet's leadership team. The airline has been in operation since October 27.

Víctor Pacheco, CEO, and founder, indicated that the airline continues expanding its network destinations and connecting this tourist center with North America, from Canada to Argentina.

As an added bonus, he said that this month is special because Arajet surpassed one million passengers in 2024 (including in transit passengers), making it the first Dominican airline to ever reach this figure in a year.

Promoting tourism and connectivity

"For Arajet, it is a commitment to promote the tourist’s arrival to the country by offering them more opportunities to visit the Dominican Republic at the lowest market prices through our robust destinations network and the more than 200 combinations of connections that we currently offer," said Pacheco who added that its main objective is to "turn the Dominican Republic into the new continent air hub."

"Today we celebrate a great step in Dominican Republic's tourism development and air connectivity, with the arrival of Arajet at Punta Cana Airport. Since its inception, this airline has demonstrated a firm commitment to quality, efficiency, and the expansion of opportunities for our nation," said Frank Elías Rainieri, Puntacana Group CEO.

Giovanni Rainieri, director of airside operations at Punta Cana Airport, explained that Arajet's new hub in Punta Cana is having a positive impact on the region's economy.

He pointed out that the airline's operations will help create jobs and support a range of industries. Rainieri also noted that the thousands of tourists and business travellers arriving with Arajet will also contribute to the economic growth of Punta Cana and the surrounding areas.

"This strategic alliance responds to our mission of remaining to be in the Dominican Republic the airport with the highest air traffic, receiving 68% of tourists who visit our country," Giovanni Rainieri emphasized.

Punta Cana airport shared that it has maintained its commitment to innovation, which has helped it become one of the top airports in Latin America.

The airport reports that its continued growth has allowed it to connect 75 cities in 34 countries through 58 airlines, serving more than 9 million passengers each year.

The airline shared that Punta Cana Airport has become Arajet's third destination in the Dominican Republic and are flying to and from Bogotá, Cartagena, and Medellín in Colombia; Cancun and Mexico City; Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador; Toronto and Montreal; Kingston, Jamaica; Lima, Peru; Sao Paulo, Santiago de Chile, and Buenos Aires.

The airline said it continues operations from Las Americas International Airport and Cibao International Airport, aiming to provide a "memorable experience with the highest international quality standards."
