American adds seasonal New York service from Calgary & Quebec City

American Airlines is adding two new seasonal routes to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), expanding its Canadian network with non-stop service from both Calgary and Quebec City.

In Calgary, American began operating the route on Aug. 6. The service will run three times weekly — Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays — through Oct. 4 aboard Boeing 737 aircraft with capacity for 172 passengers.

The new route complements the airline's existing Saturday service between Calgary and New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA), as well as flights to its hubs in Chicago (ORD), Charlotte (CLT) and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW).

“We are proud to continue growing our presence in Canada during a milestone year for American and American’s Canadian service,” said Paola Torri, director of operations for Canada and Mexico at American Airlines, in a press release.

“With this new service, customers in Calgary can seamlessly connect through our JFK hub to destinations across the United States, Europe and beyond. At the same time, the route makes it easier for travellers from across our global network to experience the best of Alberta, from Calgary’s dynamic urban culture to the natural beauty of Banff and the Canadian Rockies.”

Quebec City

Meanwhile, American launched daily seasonal service between Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) and JFK on Aug. 5.

The route will operate through Oct. 31 using Embraer 175 aircraft with capacity for 76 passengers.

American said it is the only U.S. airline offering nonstop service between JFK and Quebec City.

The route complements the airline's existing Quebec City service to Philadelphia (PHL), Chicago (ORD), Charlotte (CLT) and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), expanding onward connection opportunities through its network.

“This new service provides customers in Quebec City with convenient access to New York and beyond through our JFK hub, including connections across the United States and to key European destinations,” stated Torri. “At the same time, it makes it easier for visitors to experience the rich history, culture and charm that make Quebec City one of Canada’s most unique destinations.”
