All-clear given at Miami airport following partial evacuation
Miami International Airport (MIA) is all clear following a temporary evacuation early Monday (May 25), with operations are returning to normal after a potential security threat prompted precautionary measures.
Local reports say authorities investigated an unattended bag that led to partial evacuations in sections of the airport’s North and Central terminals.
Airport officials said areas before security checkpoints were cleared "out of an abundance of caution" while the situation was assessed.
Because of the suspicious item in the Central Terminal Area, TSA checkpoints 5, 6 and 7, along with the pre-security area between doors 9–18, were temporarily shut down.
Following an investigation by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, officials issued the all-clear and said normal airport operations would resume.
Travellers may still experience heavier traffic entering the airport and delays at TSA checkpoints in the North and Central terminals.
Passengers are advised to arrive early and allow additional time to get through security.
