Alaska Airlines launches non-stop service between Seattle & Toronto

Alaska Airlines began flying daily non-stop flights between Seattle and Toronto Pearson airport on Thursday (May 16).

The new route to YYZ provides convenient departure and arrival times, and represent the sixth Canadian city the airline flies to, in addition to Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Vancouver and Victoria.

It isn’t the first time Alaska has flown to eastern Canada from the West Coast – in the early 1990s, the carrier flew nonstop service between Los Angeles and Toronto.

Partnership with Porter

Last December, Alaska announced a partnership with Porter, allowing passengers to purchase combined Porter-Alaska itineraries.

Porter began new flights to Toronto from two of Alaska’s West Coast hubs in January: Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“There are so many opportunities with our new service between our hometown airport and Toronto, from tremendous leisure travel options to connecting a pair of key business regions in North America,” said Kirsten Amrine, vice-president of revenue management and network planning for Alaska Airlines, in a statement.

“Toronto has a lot to offer. And for our guests looking to venture into other areas of Eastern Canada, Porter Airlines can take them there with its signature onboard service.”

Alaska’s Mileage Plan members can also start earning points on Porter flights booked via Alaska Airlines from January.

Later in 2024 both VIPorter and Mileage Plan members will earn miles in their respective loyalty programs no matter where they book their flights.

Next year is set to bring more benefits, with access to mileage redemptions with enhanced availability for both VIPorter and Mileage Plan members on each other’s airline.
