Air Transat retains green ranking

Air Transat has once again ranked amongst the world’s 10 best airlines in terms of environmental performance, the only North American airline to make the top 10 in German NGO’s Atmosfair’s 2015 Airline Index.

According to the report, Air Transat ranks fifth in the world in the long-haul category and ninth in all categories of this annual index, which evaluates the environmental performance of close to 200 airlines.

According to Jean-François Lemay, General Manager, Air Transat, the airline’s fuel management program has brought about an annual five per cent decrease in consumption since 2003, adding that  the airline is aiming to reduce it by another one per cent.

The Atmosfair Airline Index helps travellers choose airlines based on their CO2 emission levels. The companies that stand out are those that strive to reduce their emissions, especially by reducing their fuel consumption, using modern fleets adapted to their routes and maximizing airplane loads.
