Air Transat to end all U.S. flights in June
(Air Transat)

Air Transat will halt all its U.S. flights in June, according to a report.

The Montreal-based carrier removed its remaining three U.S. routes from its upcoming schedule last week, according to consulting firm Ailevon Pacific.

Service between Montreal and Orlando will end on May 4, Quebec City–Fort Lauderdale flights will conclude on May 30, and Montreal–Fort Lauderdale flights will cease on June 13.

At its peak in March, Air Transat operated nine U.S. routes, but the airline has gradually scaled back cross-border flights as outbound travel from Canada declined, partly due to President Trump’s tariffs and remarks about potentially making Canada the 51st state.

The move comes on the heels of WestJet cutting 15 several Canada–U.S. routes as transborder demand continues to soften, leading to a significant capacity reduction for Summer 2026.

Canadian-resident return trips from the U.S. last month fell sharply to 1.6 million, a 24.3 per cent decrease from January 2025, Statistics Canada reported this week.

Automobile travel accounted for the majority of the decline, decreasing 26.8 per cent to 1.1 million trips, while air travel fell 17.8 per cent to 493,400 trips, the agency noted.

In contrast, travel to overseas countries by air increased 11.1 per cent, totalling 1.4 million trips in January 2026.
