Air Canada plane veers off runway in Montreal; no injuries reported

An Air Canada flight arriving from Los Angeles veered off the runway after landing at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau (YUL) on Thursday afternoon (July 9), prompting operational delays. 

The incident involved Flight AC774, which landed at approximately 4 p.m. with 156 passengers and six crew members on board.

In a statement to CTV News, Air Canada said the aircraft, a Boeing 737 Max aircraft, landed safely before leaving the paved surface while exiting the runway.

“Flight AC774 arriving from LAX on July 9, 2026 landed normally at Montreal International Airport, then sustained a runway excursion and travelled through the grass when exiting the main runway,” according to the statement.

The airline said passengers and crew on the flight deplaned and headed into the terminal. According to a statement posted to X, there were no reported injuries.

The aircraft will now be towed to a maintenance hangar, where it will undergo a comprehensive inspection to determine the cause.  

Following the incident, the North Runway at YUL closed, prompting the airport to issues alerts about possible flight delays.

The runway was operational again shortly before 10 p.m., reports confirmed..  

“However, the situation has caused some delays in operations,” the airport wrote on its Facebook page. “We invite passengers to check their flight schedules before travelling to YUL"
