Air Canada introduces basic fares for premium economy and business class

Air Canada has added new Premium Economy Basic and Business Class Basic fare options, extending the basic-fare model to its premium cabins.

The fares include many of the same restrictions found with Economy Basic tickets, while retaining several premium-cabin benefits.

Both fare types are non-refundable and can be changed for a fee. Travellers must also pay to select their seats in advance.

Both fares include one complimentary checked bag, a carry-on allowance, priority boarding, priority baggage handling and onboard meals.

Premium Economy Basic does not include lounge access.

Business Class Basic passengers can use Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges, but admission to Air Canada Signature Suites is not included.

The new fares are available for travel to the Caribbean, Latin America, Mexico and South America, as well as in transatlantic joint-venture markets. Iran, Israel and the United Arab Emirates are excluded.

Eligible benefits for Aeroplan Elite Status members, Star Alliance Gold members and Aeroplan premium credit cardholders will continue to apply.

Both Basic fares earn one Aeroplan point per eligible dollar spent on the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges.

Aeroplan Elite Status members can earn between two and six points per dollar depending on their status.

The fares also earn four Status Qualifying Credits per eligible dollar spent on the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, in line with Air Canada’s other Premium Economy and Business Class fares. However, eUpgrades cannot be used with either Basic fare.
