Agent pleads guilty to charges: TICO

Agent pleads guilty to charges: TICO

An Ontario travel agent is facing fines after pleading guilty to a number of charges, said the Travel Industry Council of Ontario.

Anas Araznajani, a partner of BTM Services - a registered travel agent that operated in Mississauga and elsewhere in Ontario, whose registration lapsed effective March 31, 2012 - plead guilty to numerous offences, including failing to hold customer funds in the designated trust account, failing to notify the Registrar, Travel Industry Act, of opening a second trust account. TICO alleges those offences took place prior to March 31, 2012. Araznajani also plead guilty to four counts of operating as an unregistered travel agent.

Araznajani faces $3,000 in fines and a suspended sentence with conditions.

The Travel Industry Compensation Fund paid a total of $3,450 to a consumer who paid for travel services not provided. Other consumers suffered losses of $16,935. Araznajani is in the process of reimbursing those consumers as part of arrangements made pursuant to a consumer proposal, said TICO.
